A brief History of St. Joseph’s Quasi Catholic Parish, Jootar
St. Joseph’s Quasi Parish, Jootar started as an outstation in 1966 under St. Mary’s Parish Wukari in the then Benue Province with Francis Ingbian as the first Church leader. And much later grew to a sub-zone under Kyado Zone, in St. Anthony’s Parish, Zaki-Biam in 1983. The Jootar sub-zone was made up of the following stations: Jootar, Kyoho, Dura, Gor, Iopav, Anzamber and Iortyom, now in St. Joseph’s Quasi Parish, Aboki. When St. Paul’s Parish, Kyado, was created in 1999 with Rev. Fr. Joseph Agbecha as the then Parish Priest, Jootar sub-zone was upgraded to a zonal status in the same year. Later in 2003, the Mbayenge axis of St. Paul’s Parish Kyado was proposed for a mission, as it was then called, by Rev. Fr. Isaiah Utsua the then Parish Priest. On 5th September, 2011, Very Rev. Fr. Francis Iber, the then Parish priest St. Paul’s Parish Kyado posted Rev. Fr. James Utav to Jooater proposed mission to test-run and nurture it to maturity. The St. Joseph’s Quasi Parish was created on the 12th October, 2012 by his Excellency, Most Revd Athanasius A. Usuh but was inaugurated by His Excellency Most Rev. William Avenya on 6th November, 2013 with five (5) zones: Jootar, Dauda, Dura, Kyoho and Iorpav. The zones cover twenty nine (29) outstations and the central church. |
