A Brief History of Our Lady Queen of Peace, Agwabi

What is today called ‘Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic Parish, Awabi’ is a child born of All Saints Parish, Ugba.  It started as a small church under Gbanyam zone in August 1985 through the efforts of Mr. Emmanuel Jir Agwabi, Peter Tarkighir Agwabi, Late Jerome Akpenmo Penda, Late Linus Agoom Samaakpe, Late Samuel Orban Agera (May their souls rest in peace)  Mr. Allen Injiough, Jonathan Iyenge, Simon Kaan and a host of others who are still our parishioners.

The tireless efforts made in establishing the church, coupled with its position attracted the attention of the then parish priest of All Saints Parish, Ugba Late Fr. A.A. Ashe of blessed memory who said the opening Mass there in September of the same year; and quickly registered it as one of his outstations thereafter.  It became a zonal headquarter of Agwabi zone in 1992.

Then in September 2003, His Lordship invigorated us with an able team under the leadership of Very Rev. Fr. James Bature with Rev. Fr. Francis Tor as his assistant who were assigned to take charge of the mission. On 26th August, 2005, all the conditions for the erection of a parish were met and the parish was created by His Lordship Most Rev. Dr. A.A. Usuh. And Rev. Fr. Francis Tor was made the substantive priest in charge of the parish.

The parish comprises of 13 zones with a total number of 72 outstations.
